THE HOGFISH
The hogfish is a legendary aquatic creature, once said to have
lurked in the darkest depths of the surrounding waters of Itonia.
It is said to have been quite intimidating in appearance, resembling
a very large fish (approx. 3 to 5 metres in length, when full-grown)
with large, copper-red scales and large spines along the length of
the back. It is believed to be a swift and agile swimmer, with an
insatiable appetite.
One of the more popular legends involving the hogfish
is the story of an Itonian named Dish. Dish was a pretty devout Itonian
of the late 14th Century, and eventually became the Sage of the Marrow.
However, when he was 17 years old, he approached one of the High Priestesses
with a question which had been plaguing his thoughts for days. He
asked the High Priestess why IT let pain and suffering continue in
the world. The High Priestess patiently explained that IT wasn't that
sort of god and had in fact admitted on several occasions that pain
and suffering really wasn't within IT's area of expertise, but IT
would be happy to refer the persons in question to a different god
who may be able to help them out a bit more, but in the meantime they
were welcome to as much chocolate as they wanted.
This bothered Dish more than a little, so like all bothered
youths, he wandered outside to throw rocks into the ocean. Unfortunately,
one of his rocks collided with the head of a rather large hogfish,
which leapt out of the water with startling agility and swallowed
Dish whole. Luckily, IT took pity on poor Dish and was able to provide
some minor protection, in the form of an ipecac squash. Dish was mercifully
regurgitated onto the beach with only minor stomach acid scars. This
really only made him even more bothered, but in a thankful kind of
way, so he went home and dutifully sacrificed a few blocks of chocolate.
PERSONALITY
Among the hogfish's most prominent personality traits are aggression
and determination. Hogfish people also tend to be tenacious and persistent
and can often be real pests. Lucky vegetable is the carrot and boots
make great hat decorations.
