HISTORY OF THIS HOLIDAY (AS RECORDED BY HISTORIAN QUARREL)
The life and times of the saint of this day have been
well documented (for once I didn’t have to do too much work!). Saint
Sinecui, who’s saint’s day this is, is a saint who was very much beloved
by IT. The main reason for the canonization of saint Sinecui is that
she rendered a great service to IT.
Sinecui was a bit of a revolutionary in a time when many gods were worshipped
and offered all forms of sacrifices and offereings. The god Vegetarius received
offerings of burnt tofu and stir fried vegetables. Shrimpini, the god of
shrimps was generally offered barbequed offerings (though some followers
considered this to be bad taste). However most gods got burnt offerings and
this was okay if you didn’t mind your fare carcinogenic but if you had a
subtler palate, like IT, burnt offerings just didn’t fit the bill.
This is where Sinecui came in. She was a follower of IT who was of a culinary
background. IT gave her the task of supervising the offerings in the hope that
she could improve the situation. Immediately Sinecui realized that burnt
offerings were the problem. Charcoal chicken aside, carbonized food was just
not a healthy thing to offer to a god and so Sinecui set about improving the
standard of the offerings by bringing a little haute cuisine into religion.
Needless to say, IT was very pleased with the results and canonized Sinecui for
her contribution to the Religion of IT.
TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION METHOD OF THIS DAY (AS RESEARCHED BY
TOWN IDIOT FIG)
This day was originally celebrated by killing and eating a fatted swan. However, due
mostly to lack of fatted swans, modern Itonians celebrate this day by dressing in
medieval-type clothing and eating poultry. Many Itonians choose to further get into
the spirit of this holiday by adopting a (often bad) medieval-type accent (i.e. throwing
in a few "thee"s and "thy"s and yelling a lot).
